Important Read if you Claim the EIC (Earned Income Credit)

Certain Taxpayers claiming a refund on their 2013.  Income tax returns who claimed the Earned Income Credit may have their refund claim suspended for up to 75 days pending review by the IRS compliance department.  Affected taxpayers will receive a Form 4883C by mail and must respond by telephone.  This form must be completed by the taxpayer and not the tax preparer.  This is for proof of identity.  If the taxpayer does not respond, the return will NOT be processed.

 

Fraud has been a problem in this area and Congress has asked the IRS to look into ways to help prevent it.  Most fraud occurs early in the tax season so up it has been said 30% of those claiming the EITC should expect a delay.
